Evidently the couple immigrated at some point to the U.S. and eventually ended up in Florida. I purchased it along with some other estate linens at an auction in northern Florida, not really knowing what I had! Rushnyks are made to celebrate special events in the Ukraine and this was made by a bride for her wedding in 1937. With some help from a group to which I belong, I found out what some of the words meant that the bride hand embroidered using a cross stitch. As much as my group member could tell, one says “The One” and the other says “God is Great”. The colors used to embroider this cloth are bright and vibrant and the has no issues and seems to be in like new condition. It is 66 1/2″ long and 11 1/2″ wide. This cloth was not produced for foreign sale but is truly AUTHENTIC. Even the side hems are done by hand with a fine, delicate stitch. This could be used as a runner on your table or displayed.
